Ensuring fair and better quality health care services for our local populations by providing expert advice and intelligence to Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and other NHS organisations. Director of Public Health lead: Heather Grimbaldeston, Cheshire East

This area of work builds on current networking arrangements between the nine local authorities and the NHS and makes them more robust and systematic. Champs recognises that individual public health teams may not have scope to interface with multiple CCGs and maintain expertise on the range of NHS priorities; and as a result have developed a system to support this.

Champs are working to create a team of lead consultants based in each local authority to provide public health advice to the NHS – each lead consultant dedicates a 1 day per week to collaborative working. This formal arrangement helps to ensure services commissioned by the NHS are evidence based, cost effective and more importantly based on population need.

This area of work enables all public health teams and their local CCG/Health and Wellbeing Boards to have access to a specialised public health resource available to all local authorities on a systematic basis. Moving from a voluntary collaborative based on goodwill to a systematic sharing of scarce expertise and resources.
